On the face of it, a compilation should be the ideal way for me to listen to Blur. I never got very excited about them, but there were a few singles that I quite liked, and I started to appreciate their creativity with the range of different ideas and sounds in the singles.
It's still the diversity that appeals to me, and I do quite like it, but I feel quite remote from this; it doesn't belong to any part of my life. None of Britpop does.
I guess the reason I got the limited edition version with extra live CD was just because it was available — for a tenner from Fopp in December 2000. The live stuff is targeted at fans who already have the other stuff, I presume. It does nothing for me.
I saw Blur in 1992 when they were bottom of the bill on the Rollercoaster tour. I remember at least one of them was jumping up and down energetically, but that's all.
