Miles Davis: Sketches of Spain

I know you like this — or you did 25 years ago — and that remembered recommendation may have been why I bought it earlier this decade (once more, a fiver from Fopp). But as I said of Porgy and Bess, Miles' collaborations with Gil Evans have never been my favourite era of his work.

That's a limp way to begin the fifth year of Music Arcades, I know, but there you go. I feel like I've been getting a bit prolix this year — too much time on my hands; too many evenings at home with my computer — so maybe this is the beginning of a new concision. Maybe.

If it's substance you're after, I recommend reading about the many ways to observe the winter solstice. The sun remains unconquered and is now reborn once more. Let's hope things get better from here.
