Obviously I know a lot less about The Byrds than you. I say "obviously" because, well, firstly, they're the kind of band you know about — the comings and goings of key members, the different eras, and so on. And secondly because no one who was clued in would have bought a cheapo rip-off compilation like this.
Well, it was cheap — three quid, I think — and they draw you in, those sorcerers of the impulse-buy, with four hits at the start of the album, knowing that you won't notice that the rest is a jumble of odds and sods. Still, four decent songs for three quid is better value, just, than the iTunes Store. This was one of my last binge visits to Fopp, at the end of 2004 — the same I day I bought, among others, 20th Century Classics, ten Duke Ellington CDs, Wedding Present Peel Sessions, The Bonzo Dog Band, The Funkadelic Collection and American Life. I came to my senses soon after.
