The press quotes for St Arkansas include a quote from The Wire, nominating it as "the most focused, succinct and downright enjoyable Pere Ubu album to emerge since their reformation in the late 1980s."
I couldn't disagree more. One of the beauties of the free online streaming services is that, for example, We7 has three of the albums since the reformation that I hadn't heard before, and on one listen alone, I find them all better than this one.
I have failed to find any resonance with the three Ubu albums since the sublime Raygun Suitcase (which is enjoyable in every way St Arkansas isn't; e.g. it makes you want to tap your foot) — no matter what The Wire, or Greil Marcus, or Mr Thomas himself, have to say about them.
