This is the third and last of the CDs I won as my prize for Gideon Coe's now defunct Paintbox Jury (see 1, 2).
At the time (early 2006), Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were quite the New Thing in places like 6 Music. Heady comparisons were bandied about, though it turned out that "sounds like early Talking Heads" meant no more than "the singer's got a reedy voice".
I didn't pay the CD much attention at the time, (a) the songs I'd heard on the radio hadn't made much impact, (b) the CD was free, (c) as band names go, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah isn't as crap as Dogs Die in Hot Cars, but it's not great, (d) don't like the cover much, (e) ahhh! not another bloody indie band.
Those prejudices have waned with time, as the band has disappeared off the radar; or at least my radar. If I were a younger man with time on my hands, I could probably grow to like the album. But I'm not.
