In principle it should have been interesting to have another David Shea album following on relatively quickly after the last one, but in practice I found this one to be a disappointment. I realised that what I liked about the other albums of his I had was their pace and variety: if I didn't like any passage, I only had to wait a couple of minutes and there'd be another quite distinct sequence along. Shea's sampler is unsurprisingly less prominent on this album, taking a back seat to the instruments of two small classical ensembles, and the result lacks the qualities I previously enjoyed in his work. The second work, The 'Voice' Suite, is more dirty and gritty, probably less 'classical', and I like it more — but only a bit more.
Amazon tells me that Classical Works II is in the, errr, works, and scheduled for a release at the end of the year. Not on my wishlist, mind.
