Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr: The Rat Pack

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr: The Rat PackI have a feeling that I'd enjoy the Rat Pack stage show, which has been playing in London for years now — and I expect Lucy would too. But we've never been.

Perhaps with that in mind, I scooped up this CD for a whopping £3 on a visit to Fopp (the same visit that I harvested Lemon Jelly, Laraaji, Charley Patton and one other).

The sad truth is that it's not worth £3. As with the Berlin, Gershwin, Porter anthology, the songs included here are for the most part cheaply licensed recordings of below-par live performances. Not the kind of thing to inspire a trip to the theatre. There are now more Rat Pack compilations on Amazon than you can shake a stick at — including one offering 48 tracks on three CDs for £3.98. Caveat emptor.
