Rush: Vital Signs
Beyond the dance music scene, 12" singles were marketed as collectors' items — a premium and relatively rare product. Twenty six years later, this record is indeed relatively rare, if googling is anything to go by, but it's not sought-after or valued: you can pick one up for less than I paid for it.
Neither should it be valued, because it was a shoddy and cynical release designed to exploit the commitment of 15-year-olds like me. Firstly, the copy I've got is a very poor pressing, which buggers up the sound on Vital Signs itself. Secondly, the other three tracks are all recycled oldies, all in versions that any fan would already have. And it's a flimsy cover with photos and graphics that are also recycled.
Vital Signs is a good song, though, as I commented before. It could have made it into the charts; but didn't.
