Jon Anderson: 3 Ships

Jon Anderson: 3 ShipsHow long have I spent trying to resist feeling guilty and ashamed about liking Jon Anderson? I'm still doing it. I started in the early '80s. But when this came out at the end of 1985, I knew my resistance was holed below the waterline. Not only is it a Christmas album, with Jon on the back showing off his bleached beach looks, but he was even willing to tell everyone about having to import some Christmas trees to his studio in California in June to create the right vibe.

I still had to buy the album — as you can see — but, not having a record player in Cambridge, I had to skulk around town looking for someone who would let me borrow theirs (while they were out, of course). I don't think I even asked you.

I remember thinking I'd found one section of the album that partly redeemed it. But listening to it this evening, I fell asleep (I've been scoring for Dulwich 5th XI most of the day, and had a late night listening to Jazz on 3 last night) and I couldn't find it this time.

Amazon tells me that the current asking price for this album is £51.89, which just goes to show…
