Various: Winter Turns to Spring
This was a kind of free extra with that came with my Unknown Public subscription one time. As it says on the cover — and the cover on the left is the sum total of all the documentation I have with this CD — it's a collaboration between Unknown Public and Warner Classics. So I guess the people at Warner just opened their catalogue to John L. Walters and invited him to take his pick for free licensing. Warner gets some targeted promotion and Unknown Public gets an extra subscriber benefit.
The track by Paulo Conte is my favourite. I don't know of him, but will be checking him out some more via Last.fm. The Bill Frisell is quite good, and the John Adams piece at least informs me that Lollapalozza has a meaning beyond just the alt rock festival of that name. Google tells me it's a slang term meaning "something or someone striking or unusual". I liked it when the Pet Shop Boys organised a gay-themed US tour (with The Magnetic Fields and Rufus Wainwright among others), and called it Wotapalava. It was cancelled on some pretext which everyone interpreted as 'low ticket sales'.
